Who We Are

Highlander Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a student-run EMS organization dedicated to providing care during emergent and non-emergent situations for the UC Riverside Campus and surrounding communities. Each care-providing member is a licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) recognized by the California EMS Authority.

Non-sworn, unarmed safety responders to join UCR’s Police DepartmentUC Riverside plans to implement new measures this fall that reflect major changes in how it approaches campus safety. They include a tiered-approach in which the UC Riverside Police Department will add a new category of non-sworn, unarmed safety personnel to respond to calls. Another addition will be behavioral health specialists trained to deescalate situations. UCR is on track to be among the first UC campuses to implement such changes.
UCR students provide EMT supportA long line of UC Riverside students looking forward to a night of music waited to get into the Student Recreation Center on a recent Friday night. But in a nearby room filled with gurneys and other medical supplies, a group of 16 students prepared for a more serious task. The members of Highlander Emergency Medical Services, or EMS, a student volunteer group, were on hand to provide medical aid to their fellow students at the Winter Soulstice.
